UA Students Participate in Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity Conference
Nearly 500 students at The University of Alabama highlighted their research and creative projects during the Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity Conference on March 27. The 12th annual conference is hosted by UA's Office for Undergraduate Research and the Office for Research and Economic Development. Poster presentations are grouped by research areas -- instead of by academic colleges or departments -- to align with national trends of using interdisciplinary approaches to problem-solving. The conference spurs interest in research among undergraduate students and helps students polish their communication skills, said Dr. Kim Bissell, director of the Office for Undergraduate Research. "We have got some pretty phenomenal students who are truly doing great things," she said.

UA Honors Students Receive Jean O'Connor-Snyder Summer Internships
Two students in the Honors College at UA have been selected as recipients of the Jean O'Connor-Snyder Internship for 2017. The internship is a statewide interdisciplinary program administered by the David Mathews Center for Civic Life in partnership with universities and community partners across Alabama. The two interns will spend June and July working in rural Marion, Alabama, on immersive, community-based projects.

CCU honors graduation candidates at Aug. 8 commencement
Approximately 300 students were eligible to walk in Coastal Carolina University's summer graduation ceremony on Saturday, Aug. 8, at the HTC Center. Pam Martin, Ph.D., professor of politics and international relations, discussed the true value of their diplomas as they begin a new chapter in their lives and placed the new graduates' achievement in a global perspective. "Slightly under 7 percent of the world's population has the degree that you have earned today," she said. "Sixty percent of your fellow U.S. citizens do not have such a degree. Given these statistics, it is clear that you have something to celebrate today!"

Coastal Carolina University honors December 2014 graduates
A total of 455 students marched in Coastal Carolina University's fall commencement ceremony Dec. 13, the largest group to participate in December graduation exercises at CCU. Approximately 590 total candidates were eligible to receive degrees. Commencement speaker Edgar L. Dyer, longtime CCU professor and administrator, spoke about the importance of universal public education in the advancement of free and civil societies.
